A long time ago I decided to create my own Supplement brand just like you! It's called Supplement Pass...you can go check it out at www.supplementpass.com if you'd like.

Supplements were in massive demand when I launched (and are even more so today) so I was determined to create the best brand imaginable.

Initially I was super excited thinking about how awesome it would feel to have my very own Supplement brand with products like Protein, Pre-Workout, Creatine, etc with my own label...

As I started diving into the whole process my excitement quickly started to decline as I realized just how much time, energy & capital was required to get started.

I called a few Supplement Manufacturers I had found online and got no response back.

After submitting my information for a quote...same deal, no response.

Finally after about 7 attempts I received quotes from 2 companies and I was literally in disbelief with how expensive getting my own Supplements was going to be.

HERE'S 2 OF THE QUOTES I RECEIVED:

I mean let's be real here...

Who has 440K laying around to buy 2 products?

This meant to get my own premium line of Supplements with 6-8 products would cost me 7 figures!

Now you might be wondering if I ended up pulling the trigger on these?

Ultimately I ordered 8 Supplements which cost me just over 300K to manufacture. They weren't as high quality as the quotes you saw above so the price per unit was a bit less.

But when I say a bit less it's arbitrary as I still ended up paying nearly 40K per sku!

The next investment I made was in a small warehouse over in a suburb of Atlanta Georgia called Duluth.

When I got this I was on cloud nine!

It made everything start to feel real. Especially when I started paying the $2,800.00 lease lol 🤣

To add insult to injury this was a 3 year contract so I had to make this work.

Then I bought 12K worth of racking to store all my products and invested 8K into an air conditioning unit so my products wouldn't go bad (it's super humid in Atlanta).

Now that I had my Supplements and warehouse checked off next I had my branding, logo, label design and web design to take care of.

I went to 99designs.com and had about 50 different mockups for a label concept.

This is the logo I ended up accepting...

Then I paid graphic designers on Upwork to build my Website & E-Commerce checkout page with all my products listed.

They also did all my label design and mockups...

This was a very long and painful ordeal and took way longer than I expected.

Here is an example of one of the checkout pages they built.

At this point I had invested $428,800.00!

Now I'll be honest...

The only reason I was able to fund this whole project was by convincing a friend of mine to finance the whole thing.

He owns a ton of fast food restaurant chains and had plenty of liquid capital.

Problem was now I had to pay him back!

You can imagine how painful that was and how much pressure I felt to not only pay back the investment but trying to support my family at the same time.

I immediately regretted my decision and then all the doubts crept in...

Doubts that I wouldn't be able to repay my investor.

Doubts that I wouldn't be able to pay myself a salary for the next foreseeable future.

Doubts that I'd end up a complete failure...

So long story short, most of my doubts became a reality.

I sold about 80K worth of Supplements in my first year of business.

Which would have been awesome if I didn't have to float all the money up front for my Supplements, warehouse, few staff members, fulfillment, etc...

I remember vividly how depressed I was at this point...

I was up to my neck in debt with no clear path how I could make this profitable.

Let alone take care of my personal debts and family responsibilities.

I was working another job on top of this so I had zero time on my hands between trying to maintain my day job and grow my Supplement business.

It made me wonder how anybody could start a Supplement business and find success?

After all, even if I sold out of all my Supplements I'd have to rebuy another batch (300K worth) well before they sold so I didn't run out of stock!

My scale would literally prevent me from ever paying off my debt to my investor...

After thinking on my next moves for days I decided to call a close friend of mine for advice who owned multiple businesses and was very creative.


After telling him about my experience and how painful it was to launch a Supplement brand he said something that really took me back.

He said it sounds like you really have something here...

I thought to myself he must have misunderstood my entire story.

"You should help other entrepreneurs avoid the same pitfalls you have gone through creating a Supplement brand and build a business around that."

At first what he said didn't make sense. But as I thought more about I eventually had one of those "aha" moments that would end up changing my life forever...

And that lead to changing the lives of thousands of other entrepreneurs as well which is the best part of this story...and something that's truly near and dear to my heart.

This is when Rocktomic Labs was born!

Ultimately I made it my life goal to make sure other entrepreneurs didn't have to go through all the pain, struggle, sleepless nights, endless amounts of time & energy that I went through in creating a Supplement brand...

I knew there had to be a better way.

After thinking on it for a few weeks I decided to have a difficult chat with my investor.

I told him I have some good news and bad news.

The bad news was that I didn't see a path forward in making our Supplement venture profitable...

This was because even if I found a way to sell all my inventory it was only a matter of time before we had to invest in more products just to sustain the business.

But...

I did have an idea I thought could potentially help us not only recoup the initial investment but change an entire industry and revolutionize the way people started Supplement brands.

He certainly wasn't thrilled about the prospect of not making him whole on his initial investment.

But being the wise man he was he was open minded enough to hear me out on my new idea and crazy enough to believe in me despite my recent failure...
